The Netball Club is a Performance Sport and as such we benefit from a greater level of investment and support. In order to retain our Performance Sport status, we demand a greater level of commitment primarily from our 1st team squad, but this attitude and dedication permeates through all squads. As a Performance Sport we benefit from access to full strength and conditioning support, including supervised lifting sessions from one of the accredited strength and conditioning coaches twice a week which takes place in the Performance Suite. We also access sports science and performance analysis support, physiotherapy and injury prevention support. In addition, we benefit from on court conditioning support which has had a significant impact on our performance each week. We return to the Saints Sport Arena before each semester starts for an intensive week of Pre-season and Mid-season training. It’s a great way for players to dust off any cobwebs and re-focus on the season ahead.
Saints Netball now boasts five teams who compete each week in the BUCS leagues. Our teams currently span divisions 1A to 7A and we enter teams into all Scottish Student Netball tournaments. We also have a Development Squad who play regular fixtures throughout the year.
Saints Netball is now broadening its approach to competition as we make more National, Netball Scotland led competitions apart of our season.
At Saints Netball, we have an active Social and Development programme which acts as a feeder system to competitive squads for those who aspire to compete at a higher level, and an outlet to play for those who just love the game. Weekly training sessions are held in the Arena for all Social players. From this a Development Squad is selected and regular matches are organised. Social and Development players are at the heart of our club and are included in all off court activities.
In 2017, Saints Netball hosted their very first Social and Development Tournament. The purpose of this event was to provide some match play for Development Squads from Scottish Universities who want more competition. Due to the success of this event it will form part of the annual programme run by Saints Netball.
